Meet Lucky!

Lucky is Lucky!

This beautifully wire-haired terrier was found in January of this year by a customer of the neighborhood 7-11. I pulled in to get gas and heard the employee inside calling Animal Control to pick him up. I couldn't ignore the sadness in his eyes and offered to take him home. Remember, this was months before we adopted Rudy. He wagged his tail and hopped right into the car. My kids, husband and I all fell in love with him instantly.

Long, drawn out story cut very short, he ended up with my neighbors who had abused him. I tried really hard to get him back. I found his original owner who said he no longer wanted him. Animal control couldn't do anything because there was no proof.

I thought it was over. I was devastated. This is when we went to adopted Rudy.

There was a big storm one day. The neighbors let him outside and he ran away when a big thunder sounded. Animal Control picked him up. This was on a Friday and they are closed over the weekend so I knew Lucky would have been there all weekend. That broke my heart.

Since Animal Control picked him up, my neighbors got two more dogs. That made me so mad.

Anyway, first thing Monday morning I went to the shelter to find out when he would be available for adoption. He would be available on Wednesday if his owners didn't come to pick him up.

They didn't pick him up and I adopted him first thing Thursday morning. He was legally mine. He was ecstatic when he saw me in the shelter!

Of course after the adoption, my neighbors started drama. They've called the police saying I stole him. They've called Animal Control saying that I leave Lucky and Rudy outside for hours without shelter and water. They all roll their eyes when they see the adoption papers, the dog houses and the bowls of clean water outside, not to mention they have their own couch in the house... They are happy and my family is complete.

Lucky is back home where he belongs!

Peanut Butter and Bacon treats!

**Disclaimer! Bacon is NOT good for dogs REGULARLY. It is a highly fatty food that is very commonly a cause for pancreatitis. These treats are okay as each one only has very tiny bits of bacon, but please don't give your furry babies a bowl full at a time, no matter how cute their puppy eyes are!

My mom found the recipe for these amazingly delicious treats here. They're very simple and cheap to make!

You need:
3 pieces of cooked bacon, finely chopped
1 egg
1/2 C peanut butter
1/4 C chicken broth
1 C whole wheat flour (rice flour is a good substitute for dogs with wheat allergies)
1/2 C quick cook oats
1 Tbsp honey

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees.

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl. Human hands can do this best.

Lightly flour a surface. Roll the dough out to about 1/4" thin. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut slices about 1" by 3".

Lay each slice rippled (to resemble bacon) on an aluminum foil lined baking sheet.

Bake for 15-20 minutes. Allow to cool before removing.

Treat your pet for (im)patiently waiting!

These can be stored for up to two weeks in an airtight container.

Healthy 2 Ingredient Frozen Treats

I RUV hot days because that means I get cold treats! I'm going to show you how my mom made these easy peasy treats today.

She used plain Greek yogurt and creamy peanut butter. Use equal amounts (doesn't have to be exact! I prefer extra peanut butter *wink*) together in a bowl.

Mix them up how you prefer. They can be blended perfectly smooth, or not so much for a nice marbled effect.

Scoop them into a silicone ice cube tray. My mom got this skull tray from the Dollar Tree a couple years ago during Halloween.

Freeze them for at least 45 minutes. Pop them out and there you go!

My mom only gave me two today. She popped the rest out into a ziplock bag to keep in the freezer. That means I can have some every day!

They were delicious!

Hope you try it!

     Ruv,
        Rudy

It's been a week!

I have been with my new family for one week. I have already experienced a lot of fun doggy things!

On the first day I was home, my mom took me to this big event to show support for a Pit Bull named Link, that got sentenced to euthanasia wrongfully. Even though I am not a Pit Bull, I made lots of Pit Bull friends! Link's case did get appealed by the way. You can support him by liking his Facebook page!

The next day, I went to get my rabies shot. It didn't feel good at all. I also met a cat that I wanted to play with really bad, but his mom said no because I'm too big. The vet said I am no older than 10 months. I'm just a puppy!

Yesterday, we went to the park and discovered that I LOVE water! It was so much fun chasing around all the fish.

I have to admit, all this time, I have been TERRIFIED of riding in the car. There was nothing fun about not having my feet on solid ground. (I have even peed on my mom a couple times...) On the way home from the park, my mom forced me to turn around to stick my head out of the window. I thought she was insane! But now I thank her.

Throughout the week as I have gotten to learn more and bond with my family, they have also gotten to know me and my outgoing personality!

I have not one time used the bathroom in the house. My mom has already taught me "sit", "paw", and "down". I still have to work on "stay". Starting today, we are practicing "play dead"! I'm excited because I REALLY love hotdogs.

While we were all very happy and excited that I am learning new tricks, I went and dug up some of my mom's strawberry plants to celebrate! But she was not happy anymore AT ALL. She told me that I am very lucky I am cute even with dirt all over my face.

Well fwends, that just about rounds up my new life so far! I miss my friends at the shelter and we are planning to go visit soon to donate some things they need.

Thank you for reading my very first post and come back to read about other things I get to learn and experience, as well as crafts and recipes that my family makes for me!
